UDAYAN CINEMA (P) LTD’s journey began with the remarkable vision of Late Deb Prosad Daw, whose dream was to bring quality entertainment to the people of Sheoraphuli and beyond. With exceptional foresight for his time, he opened the gates of Udayan Cinema, Sheoraphuli on 27th December 1946—a full eight months before India’s Independence. What started as a courageous initiative quickly became a cultural landmark for the district of Hooghly.

Today, Udayan Cinema is run by the third generation of the Daw Family of Rishra, who remain committed to carrying forward this legacy with pride, discipline, and a forward-looking approach. In an era when hundreds of single-screen cinemas across Bengal shuttered their doors, Udayan held firmly to its ground—adapting to changing times while staying true to its roots.

On its 70th anniversary in December 2016, Udayan embraced a new chapter by transforming into a state-of-the-art 2-screen multiplex, blending modern amenities with the warmth and nostalgia that generations of patrons cherish. The journey of expansion continued with the opening of our first branch in Tarakeswar in August 2025, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to serve the entertainment needs of Hooghly district.

Now, on the brink of entering its 8th decade, Udayan Cinema stands at a powerful intersection of heritage and ambition. We remain dedicated to offering an elevated cinematic experience—combining comfort, technology, hospitality, and a deep understanding of our community’s expectations.
